Detox Troubleshooting

Slow things down. Detox is not a race. Mild symptoms are normal, but if they are getting in the way of your life, you may need a course correction. If you are taking supplements, slow them down or take a break. Then try starting them at ½ dose.

Increase your hydration. Make sure you are getting enough water and electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, sodium). If you aren't sure, eat a banana or two, have some salty soup, or use a clean electrolyte solution or sports formula.

If slowing things down or increasing hydration doesn't work, consider that you may still have a leaky gut and check out the PDF called "Trouble Shooting the Gut." You may need to stop your detox and do some further gut repair or evaluation.

Issue: Headaches, achiness, soreness, stiffness, fatigue. This is likely due to dislodged toxins that are circulating and causing reactions and inflammation. Reasons are: 1) toxins released too fast for detox mechanisms to keep up; 2) not enough hydration; 3) leaky gut recirculating dumped toxins.

Feeling a little down or needing some extra nap time is completely normal during a detox. Your body is working extra hard and may be asking you for some extra help. A little is fine; a lot is a sign that your body may be too taxed by the detox.

Solution:

  1. Slow down the detox process or take a break from supplements.
  2. Increase hydration with water and electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, sodium).
  3. If symptoms persist, consider evaluating and repairing your gut health. Check out the PDF "Trouble Shooting the Gut" for further guidance.

Issue: Constipation.

It is important that you are having a good poop (#3 or #4 on the chart!) every day or close to it, ESPECIALLY during detox! Remember that if you are not pooping enough, toxins are sitting in your intestines. That's the opposite of a detox!

Solution: If you aren't, stop your detox and check out the "Trouble Shooting the Gut" PDF. You may want to check your hydration, increase fiber intake, or consider adding more magnesium to your diet. Triphala, an Ayurvedic herb, can also be very helpful for constipation. Additionally, prunes and prune juice can aid in relieving constipation. In a pinch, there are some laxative herbs like Senna, but it's important not to let your body become dependent on them.

Issue: I don't feel anything.

Solution: Just keep doing what you are doing. Your body is doing what it needs to do. Likely, you are having a well-balanced cleanse. Just keep doing what you are doing, and be happy!

Remember to listen to your body and make adjustments as needed during the detox process. If you have any concerns or persistent symptoms, it's always a good idea to check in with a medical provider.
